Spring Break Scrap Card Challenge 3

One other thing in common most of these cards have is that they have no sentiments stamped on them yet.  Right now, they're sitting in "the stash" waiting to be sent, but I never know what's going to be needed sooner, a thank you, a birthday, or a thinking of you card... This card looks good turned 90 degrees as well.

Recently my mom sent me a great birthday card with a focal point of a flower made out of punched circles.  It was such a cute embellishment, it seemed to be a great match for the Ornament punch!

Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets (#120805)

Ornament Punch, Boho Blossoms Punch, 1" Circle punch

Step 1:  Punch 5 ornaments from the Real Red Designer Series Paper, 2 circles from the Real Red card stock, and 2 circles from the adhesive sheets.  Stick the adhesive circles to the card stock.  

Step 2:  Pinch a pleat into the base of the ornament to create a petal shape.

Step 3: Overlap the petals on the adhesive circle base.

Step 4:  Use second adhesive circle to cover the center and secure the petals in place.

Step 5: Embellish the flower center, here I used the Boho Blossoms Punch and layered a couple little flowers on the center, and polished it off with an adhesive pearl.  Flowers adhere best using Stampin' Dimensionals on the back center.

25 Scrapbook Borders

Hello!  Here was a personal scrapbook challenge for myself:  How to build a 30 page scrapbook in 4 days.  It was for a dear friend who was moving, and I had to get it done in time for her going away party.

1. This was a series of 1-1/4 inch strips of paper cut with the Blossom Builder Punch

2a.  Dark and Dreary raven stamped 3 times, the middle raven was stamped on a separate piece of card stock and heat embossed with Basic Black powder, and adhered with a stampin' dimensional.  The edge is trimmed with the Scallop Trim Border punch.

3. Paz y Amistad heart globe - one of the Spanish sets from Stampin' Up in the 2011-12 Celebrando Creatividad.

4. Here's one of my new favorites:  the Tasteful Trim Bigz  XL Die  -#120893 for the Big Shot die cutting system.  It has 4 different borders/trims 12-1/2 " long for cutting scrapbook borders or fabric and ribbon.

Basic Black Marker to shade the center, and sliced it up and spliced it with Basic Black card stock

7.  This is a decorative swirl from the Kindness Matters set, stamped 2x on each Large Oval, layered on a Basic Gray Scalloped Oval, all on a Basic Black Extra Large Oval

8.  Punch art with 1" circles, 1-1/4" circles, and the old Decorative Label Punch (discontinued) which can be substituted with the new Ticket Duo Builder Punch coming out June 1, 2012.

Any of these designs can be turned, right, left, upside down, centered, used 12" or 8" depending on what size book you're working on.  Layers and ribbon dress things up, Designer Series Paper adds a little spice to any design.  Because of the small size, I kept it very simple, but the designs are easily expanded upon.   For her journaling blanks, I used Whisper White card stock cut with the Scallop Squares Duo Bigz die, one for each layout.

Ode to the Ornament Punch - Part 3 - Fish Scales ~

Ah, back on track!  I was having so much fun playing with the Ornament Punch, I decided to incorporate some of the ideas into competition submissions, so please excuse me for being greedy with my ideas for a few months!  The OP has such a pleasant shape, it seems to work with a fish scale layer concept better than ordinary circles.

Ornament Punch (#119847)

Crumb Cake card stock - card base

Early Espresso card stock - backgrounds

Whisper White card stock - sentiment stamping and backing for mounting fish scales

3 Ornaments of each color:  Daffodil Delight (plus a 1/2 " x 4" piece to go under the first layer of ornaments), Tempting Turquoise, Island Indigo, Bravo Burgundy, Cherry Cobbler, Riding Hood Red, Pumpkin Pie.

Mulitpurpose Adhesive Sheets (#120805) - (they make anything into a sticker....)

Fabulous Phrases Set (#117002 wood, #120501 cling)

Step 1:  Cover your 4 x 5-1/4 piece of Whisper White card stock with a piece of Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet.  I like WW for this because it's a little thinner than the other card stock, and this card gets thick with the multiple layers.  Attach your 1/2" x 4" piece of Daffodil Delight to the adhesive sheet aligned with the bottom edge.  Begin layering your ornaments on the adhesive, using the grid paper as a guide to keep your ornaments in straight lines.  Go ahead and over lap the edge of the backing, it gets trimmed off later.

Trim off the little ornament tops to allow maximum adhesive contact.  

Step 2:  Trim the excess.  The Tabletop Paper Cutter is great for cutting through all those layers at once and keeping the edges square.

Step 3:  Mount your fish scale background to Early Espresso card stock.  (The size is 4-1/8" x 5-3/8") It's a good idea to cut the center out of the  Early Espresso backing to keep the weight/thickness down. (I used the paper trimmer to cut 1" in on all sides.) that center became my backing for the stamped sentiment. 

Here we are!  The card and the inspiration piece - a fabulous late 1960's stationary holder that was needle pointed by my grandmother (a.k.a. Gammy)  who, as an artist herself, has her own "flare" for color.  The sentiment is from the Fabulous Phrases stamp set #117002w/120501c, stamped  in the classic ink of each of the card stock colors.  I used the Stamp-a-ma-jig positioner to keep it aligned.

Today's blog is a short and sweet one, the ornament punch as a vase. Ronda Wade pioneered this one on her blog, and featured the vase with some cute stamped flowers. This version is entirely punch art.

Ode to the Ornament Punch - Part 1 - recap

The Ornament Punch was a Stampin' Up offering for about a year before I bought one for myself. “It's soooo cute” my friends said. “Makes great Christmas tags!” proclaimed Mom, “It even has a stamp set that goes with it!” Today the Ornament Punch has about 3 stamp sets that use it as a base design, but what I have come to love about it is all the things this beautiful yet basic shape can do all year long.

Today, I'm using it as a border punch.

Supplies:

Ornament Punch from Stampin' Up item #119847

1-1/2 x 12 inch strip of card stock or paper (or 1-1/2 x length of project). Shown here: Peach Parfait from the In Color 2010-2012 12 x 12 collection #124338 available through my Stampin' Up demonstrator website.

graphing ruler (this one's a “Tim Holtz”, but there are a variety available in the drafting department of office supply and craft stores. I confess that while I am a hard core Stampin' Up demonstrator, I do have a few dalliances with Tim Holtz' products....)

Directions:

Mark the center line (CL) of the back of your card stock strip. Draw parallel lines each 1-7/8 inches, perpendicular to the top edge. These are the center lines of the ornament. Position the card stock so that it rests against the backstop (hinge) of the punch, with the CL at the bottom point of the ornament. Punch at each CL.

Notice, I have marked my punch with a sharpie extra fine point, to help me keep my paper parallel.

Yes, I know that I am a nerd.

Turn your card stock around, and mark the center of each area between ornaments. Punch in the same fashion as the first side. Because there's not much card stock to brace against the hinge of the punch, marking the punch is very helpful to keep your design straight.

Optional: Nip a little quadrant of ornament off the square end, as I have done here to keep the flow of the pattern.

The “leftover” pieces can also be used to create a border design. 100% used – love it!
